Ryan Sutter of ABC’s The Bachelorette can finally rest easy knowing that both his wife Trista and their son Maxwell (born July 26, 2007) are safe and healthy.
But in the last few days and hours of Trista’s pregnancy, things got a little scary.
US Weekly reports: “Her doctor found protein in her urine and tested [Trista] for preeclampsia, a potentially fatal hypertensive disorder that typically occurs toward the end of a pregnancy.”
Trista was diagnosed with HELLP syndrome (a complication of preeclampsia).
Once induced and in the hospital to deliver the baby (the couple didn’t know the baby’s sex yet), things only got worse.
Says Ryan: “I knew something was wrong when the doctor looked worried. They said there was a chance her liver could rupture. They were trying to get us to make a comfortable decision to go with a C-section. Eventually we said if Trista’s health is deteriorating and we’re jeopardizing the baby’s health, then do what you have to do.”
Luckily, doctors were able to to deliver the baby and save him and Trista from harm.
